How we are funded

Our guides are free to read. We are paid by advertisers, not by readers. We do not charge fees, sell products, or make or broker loans, job offers or admissions.

Who serves the ads

Ads on the Sites are served through Google Ad Manager, an advertising platform provided by Google LLC, via our advertising partner ActiveView, which sells and manages ad space on our behalf. Advertisers bid to show their ads on our pages, and we are paid when ads are shown or clicked. Ads may be selected by Google, ActiveView and other authorised ad vendors, and may be personalised based on your browsing where you have consented or where permitted by law.

How ads look on the Sites

• Ads are displayed in clearly separated ad units, and are labelled "Advertisement", "Ad" or "Sponsored".
• Some pages show ads between steps of a guide or quiz, or before a result is displayed. You never have to click an ad to read our content or see a quiz result.
• Ads are chosen by the ad platforms, not by our editors. The appearance of an ad does not mean we endorse the advertiser, its products or its claims.
• Please do not click ads unless you are genuinely interested in them. Artificial or incentivised clicks are prohibited by our Terms of Use.

How we promote our guides

We also pay to advertise our own guides on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, and use the Meta Pixel to measure how well those campaigns work. Details are in our Privacy Policy.

Editorial independence

Advertisers have no influence over what we write, which topics we cover or what our guides say. We do not accept payment for favourable coverage. If we ever publish sponsored content or use affiliate links, they will be clearly labelled on the page, and we will explain whether we are paid.

Your choices

You can opt out of personalised advertising at https://adssettings.google.com, and by many other vendors at https://optout.networkadvertising.org, https://optout.aboutads.info and https://www.youronlinechoices.eu. Questions or complaints about an ad

If you see an ad that seems misleading, offensive or inappropriate, please tell us through our Contact page, including the page address and a description or screenshot of the ad, and we will report or block it where possible.
